As an expat living and working abroad an expat medical health insurance policy makes sense if only for the reason that, unless you are fluent in the language of the country you are living in, you will be able to read all terms and conditions of your insurance.
Most expat health insurers use packages that cover the cost of everything medical, from hospital cover to traveling home, if you have a serious illness and need to be repatriated. Some offer emergency packages which includes hospital treatment and medical repatriation if needed amongst other things. Because this emergency package dosen’t cover your day to day health issues it is of course cheaper than the full packages.
