Diabetes – approximately 7% of the United States have Diabetes according to the American Diabetes Association.  That’s 20.8 million Americans, and of that number 6.2 million are not aware that they have Diabetes.

Diabetes can be mainly self-controlled with supplies like meters, test strips and insulin.  These supplies and medications can usually be covered through medical health insurance policies, however for someone with diabetes getting and more importantly keeping medical health insurance as well as life insurance can be very hard.

The American diabetes association website has all the relevant information for you, from symptoms of diabetes, types of diabetes, nutrition and diet to insurance options that cover a wide range of people.

In the UK approximately 3.2% of the population has diabetes, with about 1 million people not being aware they have it.  It is thought that by 2010 diabetes in the UK will rise to 3 million people.

In the UK 9% of hospital costs are due to diabetes, and those costs are 6 times higher for a diabetes sufferer than for a person without diabetes.  For all your UK diabetes information diabetes.org.uk has a website that will answer most of your questions,
